Volunteering on a Habitat Home Build
As an individual, group, or member of a corporation, volunteers who help to build a Habitat for Humanity home are an integral part of our mission to eliminate poverty housing.

Volunteering on a build with Habitat allows you to use your skills to help a good cause. Individuals interested in volunteering to help construct Habitat for Humanity homes will receive information regarding upcoming build projects and must complete a separate Build Volunteer Application for each project. We ask you to self-evaluate in a variety of different construction areas so we may use your talents appropriately. Some skill areas include:
- Cabinet installation
- Electrical
- Flooring
- Framing
- Door installation
- Landscaping
- Project Management
- Site Security
You don’t have to be an expert to be a volunteer - depending on the task you will be performing, there are training sessions and safety courses that we offer! Habitat U is a training program run by Habitat-NCR and the Build Committee so that volunteers coming onto the build site will have some basic knowledge of a construction site, tools, and the task for the day. Habitat U dates will be posted as soon as they are available.
Licensed carpenters, plumbers, electricians, drywallers, and other members of the skilled trades are always welcome in Habitat for Humanity home construction!
At a build site you may be involved in any number of tasks including framing,
shingling, hanging drywall, siding, painting, landscaping, providing or
serving a meal to hungry volunteers. The building site usually operates
8:00am to 5:00pm daily. We are especially in need of Volunteers who are
able to help during the week or on a regular basis.
Volunteering on a build allows the development of new skills and techniques which will prove invaluable throughout life, within and outside of Habitat for Humanity.
