A nationwide recycling partnership between Habitat for Humanity Canada and Alcan began in November 2004. All Canadian affiliates are invited to encourage recycling by participating in the program and competing to collect the most cans and win amazing prizes!

How Does It Work?

It has never been easier to be a Habitat donor! Habitat NCR takes donations of empty pop and beer cans from members of the community including individual people, schools, office buildings, hotels and restaurants. At about 2 cents per can and 33 cans per pound, Habitat NCR recycles the aluminum then presents its receipts to Alcan in the Spring. In turn, Alcan matches the money received for recycling up to a maximum of $2,500 per affiliate.

What Are The Prizes?

Alcan will fund the construction of three new Habitat homes each year for the top recycling affiliates in Canada! From simply recycling, Habitat NCR would receive a cheque for $60,000 from Alcan, giving them the capacity to help another family in need! The affiliates not in the top 3 receive matching payments from their recycling receipts up to $2,500.

How Can I Help?

Talk to your family, friends, students and coworkers about their can recycling and suggest bringing empty pop and beer cans to one of the Habitat ReStores! Organize a pick-up schedule at your work place if the number of cans becomes too much to manage, or drop them off when it is convenient for you.
